The vision of the Rotary Club of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus:
Our diverse, high energy members practice service above self at the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and beyond
through sustainable projects that promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene,
save mothers and children, promote education, grow local economies, and protect the environment.

In January 2014, an application was submitted to Rotary International by the Buffalo Sunrise Club to sponsor a new club: the Rotary Club of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC). Rotarians David Johnson (Grand Island Rotary) and Pat Whalen (Buffalo Rotary), along with Past District Governor Pravin Suchak, were instrumental in shepherding the process. Information about Rotary and the new club was distributed throughout the campus.

Many of the charter members were affiliated with organizations at the medical campus. Our membership includes realtors, a roofing business owner, a pastor, a family physician, a communications professor, a representative of Kevin Guest House), a representative from the Salvation Army, a neurosurgeon, the owner of a copying business, a leadership coach, a retired cancer researcher, a security consultant, IT specialists, entrepreneurs, and the founder of the Big Big Table (Mandy), a community café in Buffalo where everyone eats regardless of their ability to pay.

Some of what we do:
  • We’ve adopted a portion of the Greenway Trail (Niagara River Greenway Shoreline Trail) near the Frank Lloyd Boathouse on Rotary Row in Buffalo, where we gather for clean-ups, tending to the gardens, and general beautification of the area, several times a year.
  • Our club has provided a bench along the Greenway Trail, and installed a bike fix-it station complete with tools for bikers needing to fix a flat or other minor repairs during their ride.
  • We sponsor blood drives at the medical campus through ConnectLife, Western New York’s only community blood center and federally designated organ, eye, and tissue procurement agency.
  • Our club offers a $1000 scholarship to a to a local high school senior to pursue further education.
  • A BNMC International Grant will enable the building of latrines for 250 in the Ruby Valley, Nepal.
  • We are installing a Little Free Library on the Kevin Guest House campus on Ellicott Street.
  • We provided Pack-N-Plays to a local charity for their client needs, provided meals and conversation to clients at the Kevin Guest House, and worked with the businesses on the 800 block of Main Street on a beautification project, including planters and smoking butt depositories.
  • BNMC is the sponsoring club for the University at Buffalo Rotaract Club.
  • Our annual Chili Cook-off is our primary fund-raising event each year.
